For 2022, P chose a Pokemon theme. Luckily there is plenty of birthday swag out there, so it wasn’t too hard to pull off. Here are a few ideas to hopefully make a great party for your little.
How stinkin’ cute are these favor boxes?!
P made these fuse bead Pokeballs for each favor bag, which I think is so sweet!
I hate useless favor swag. I hate when P brings it home and I hate giving it to my friend’s kids so they too have something to throw away the week after the party. I try to add things that they will use or eat, such as pencils, bubbles, bags of pretzels, or some fun summer item that hopefully they can hang onto for more than a week.
We included Pokemon cards and snacks. P also made each friend a fuse bead Pokeball, which I thought was the absolute sweetest idea.
Decor
Pokemon decor is pretty easy to come by on Amazon. For balloons, I used to put a grouping together myself, but this year, I’ve been so busy with work, I decided to forgo this. P is unhappy because he loves blowing up balloons with me - really he likes sucking in helium and making funny voices with me. So, I let Party City handle it for me.
Funny story: One year, I spent all night blowing up helium balloons only to wake up the next morning and realize that the latex balloons only hold air for 8 hours. They were all laying on the floor in the morning and I cried over the wasted effort. Never again.
We also had a special visitor - a friend in costume - that was a huge hit. He may have gotten chased by all the kids. It was a hot July day, so the poor guy was drenched, but seriously, what a wonderful, kind bunch of friends we have!!
The Cake
I went a bit overboard on the cake. I am a good baker, but had never attempted a cake of this magnitude before. To say I was a bit stressed about it was an understatement. I made a chocolate depression cake and sprinkles cake, both recipes are from Iambaker.
I followed basic decorating instructions and chilled the cakes. I cut the sprinkles cake in half and layered it between the chocolate cake. I then crumb coated and chilled the cake again. I drew a template for the “eye” of the cake with construction paper. I placed it on top and used toothpick to draw out the design. I used a star tip and three piping bags with red, black and white frosting to decorate. I love how it came out! What do you think?
I absolutely loved doing this Pokemon party though next time I may leave the cake to the professoinals. Phew! I hope you got some good ideas from the post. Please let me know in the comments below what you think.
